To Internet Blogzorz!
I'm doing well in the mission so far. It's not as crazy as everyone thinks...we
missionaries are people too! I'm surviving off of tuna and frozen burritos.
Mmmmmmm...burrito.
Anywho, I'm going to try and type out a little art advice every once in awhile
because it's advice that really is applicable to all areas of life. Whatever.
Just read. :D
----
With any piece you create, you need to give it a mood and a soul before you give
it a body. A picture that is imperfect with mood and soul reigns supreme over a
picture rendered in static technical perfection. Pictures with mood speak to
people. Technical pictures speak to analysts and scholars.
With whatever you do, make sure you focus in on an emotion, mood, or whatever
and hone in on that first. Everything that follows should build toward that
mood. It doesn't matter 'what' you draw after that...you can draw anything and
your mood will be reflected in it.
In my art class in college, we had to draw loafs of bread as a final project. I
drew it with the mood I wanted because that's what I have learned to do. When
the class analyzed it, I was amazed about how well they were able to pick up on
my mindset I had while drawing it. They said "it's a loaf of bread, but it
reminds me of an epic landscape and I don't know why." That was cool. So try it
out and master mood before technical perfection. Mood is simply what makes a
picture interesting. Everything else is an afterthought.
