Yeah, my art has been pretty cool. I'm forced to work with pencil, which is
leading me in other directions, but that's not really a bad thing. I wish I
could post it, but I really don't see any way of doing so (unless I actually
mailed them to someone and they posted them or something extreme like that; I'm
not allowed online...my sister posts all of my responses and forwards all
message to my email inbox).

I get to draw pretty much once a week. Mondays are my preparation day and I have
from 9-6 to get my weekly shopping and laundry done...and then I can do whatever
I want with my free time. Once a week isn't that much, and perhaps as I get used
to things out here, more opportunities to draw will reveal themselves, but for
right now that's what it is.

My art is always freaky and weird. :D Environments = :D I'm thinking about
posting some monthly artistic advice on this blog thing, but well see what time
I have to do so. Anyways, bye! :D

Everyone we teach down here is black. Everyone. I used to think racially and
now
I really don't. People are people. Race is still an issue in some people's
minds. People have told me "now, I'm not racist or anything, but this area
was
very nice before...you know...the black people came. before Katrina, they
were
all down in New Orleans, and ever since they've come up, things have...blah
blahhh".

Not racist...yeah right!

When I get back to utah the number of white people will likely bug me.

Anyway, I have a favor to ask! I want to know the holidays for every day for
the
rest of the year. Could you go to google and search in "holiday for
everyday" or
something like that and send me a list of the holidays at least through
october?
I hope i didnt miss Talk like a Pirate day, but I bet I did.

My companion thinks that I'm the nerdiest person she's ever met. I've met
nerdier...I think. I don't know. I've explained to her that we (as in our
family) are all nerdy, just in our different ways.

I hope the peach tree isn't dead. Did the weight split it in half? Do they
taste
good this year?

I hope you're taking pictures. I know you're not, and that's why I bring it
up,
XD. Take pictures. Of stupid things. Of you. Of the cats. Of the house.
Whatever. Of jamie's little display things he makes. Take them of everything
and
prepare, because I'll be sending you my sd card with pictures I have taken.
Then, you can save those pictures to my computer and then fill the card up
with
pictures of you and send it back to me.

You never did say, that I recall, if you guys put my External Hard Drive
away. I
hope you did. That thing cost much moneys and there are thousands of hours
of
work saved to that thing that I would hate to have lost.

I'm teaching people how to draw out here on P-day. It's fun. Oh, and
missionary
work has changed so much since mom and dad came out it's not even funny.
Tracting (knocking on random doors like a soap salesman), is ineffective and
rarely implimented (and by rarely, I mean...we did it once for about 20
minutes
in the last month). The effective missionary work is done when people order
dvds
and books from the commercials and we deliver them. That a members helping.
Members are missionaries, they just don't know it. The church is going
through
major changes and I'm sure that in the next little while, emphasis on member
missionary work will change. People think of missionaries as something
completely different than being a normal member. That's wrong. Missionaries
just
do it all the time. Members are supposed to sharing the gospel actively. The
majority of our success comes from the surprisingly few who actually live
this
gospel and DO SOMETHING.

Rants.

Anyway, write me back sometime. It doesn't have to have a point...in fact, I
prefer that it doesnt. Just write something.

Bye. :D

>Dear netizens,
>I am doing well in my life as a missionary for my church. I can say that I have grown more as a person in the last month than I ever have in my whole life. My perspective on life has shifted and improved and I can say with confidense that what I am learning out here goes beyond just waving bibles at people. I'm learning to live for others, which is something most people never enjoy. You really discover yourself when you give up everything you think that makes up "you."Life without movies, music, video games, etc is not hard. Sure it was difficult at first, but all of those things often serve to act as noise in our lives and we forget who we really are.
>
>I was rather unhappy before coming out here, and devoting everything to the service of others has been a real eye opener. I suggest to any of you that feel unhappy or unsatisfied with your lives to forget yourself and try and help other people out by volunteering in your community in some way.
>
>Artistically, I have not given up art, but rather redirected it. Out here in the mission field, we devote all our time and energies to what we call a consecrated lifestyle. We devote everything that we are, have, think, and do to the work. It really is an incredibly focussed lifestyle. My artwork has not stopped, just redirected. I do not know if I will be able to send any pictures that I have done, but just know that I am doing well.
>
>I hope all of you are drawing and sketching as much as you can as constructively as you can. I hope you are taking the time to help yourselves grow. Just remember that we all have potential as well as weakness. With practice, we realise our strengths and with help from others, we can let go of the things that we don't need in our art. Take advice from others--everyone has blindspots they cannot see and you will learn much faster by being submissive to critique instead of defensive. The attitude with which you approach critique, advice, and your drawing will make all the difference for you. Remember that if it does not build, it distracts. Remember there is beauty and power in simplicity and confidense. And also remember that bad days and slumps are part of a regular cycle and that in such instances, looking outside yourself for inspiration is your best bet to get over them more quickly.

>Regarding the blog I have set up, I want to say this: I made this blog to communicate with friends and family and let them know how I was doing while I am away. This is not a blog for religious propaganda. I will not preach to you. I will not shove religious jargon down your throats--that is not my place, out here, or in writing letters to you.
>
>This blog is to let you know how I am doing. I am not trying to change you, I am trying to stay in contact with people who I consider friends. If you feel the need to reply, please do so. I want to know how you guys are doing.
>
>I do not want this blog to turn into a spawning ground for flaming other people's beliefs.
>
>I made the blog with the intent to let people know how I was doing and stuff and how I felt so they could keep up to date while I'm away. I didn't make it as a religious propaganda site. So, comments replying in regard to any religious belief are off the point of the entire blog and will not be allowed.
>
>The blog is for people to talk to me and I to them. Anything that deviates that, including those posting comments to further their own agendas and otherwise seek to destroy the beliefs of others will not be tolerated. There are other places to spam that garbage.
>
>I am hurt that people would seek to use my blog for these purposes. This is a blog for friends. I don't have a terrible amount of time to type anymore, I have to get back to work. Please be constructive. Please type something meaningful if you wish to send any message to me. If any more inflamatory emails are sent to me, I will have to stop reading these replies altogether. If these comments distract me from my work, I cannot afford to give my time to them, because I have very little time at all.
>
>I hope you all are doing well and look forward to hearing from any of you that are interested in contacting me in any way. I love letters...and I love people sending drawings and stuff. If you want to send me a physical letter, the address is below.
